Présentation:

First, my project will focus on the Shoah survivor’s autobiography as a literary form. Survivors are delivering their personal Shoah experience by storytelling in the autobiography. But this act reveals memories, which occurred without temporality and local cognition. Living as a Jewish prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp was like living in a cordoned-off area without a watch nor calendar. As a literature scientist, I became interested in how Shoah survivors can tell a story from their experience without those basic narrative elements. Therefore, in order to understand the peculiarity of the survivor’s autobiography, it is necessary to look at the characteristics of the literary autobiographical form and its narrative strategy in the autobiography. Using the autobiographies of Elie Wiesel (1928-2016), a Shoah survivor, I will focus on the episodic memories he mentioned, the kinds of narrative elements he used, and the purpose he conveyed.
Secondly, my project will consider the autobiographies of a Shoah survivor as a process. The purpose of a survivor’s story telling in an autobiography is not just to reconstruct an experience from the past, but rather to testify it. Furthermore, testimony by a Shoah survivor is a witness-account, which goes a long way to remember, reflect, overcome and heal memories. Thus, it is necessary to consider all of Wiesel's autobiographies and the complementary witness accounts elucidated within these different time-periods. As time passes, the survivor’s point of view and the interpretation of his Shoah experience, as well as the narrative itself can change. Thus, regarding this as a process enables a critical reflection of personal Shoah-memories.

- Dong Hun KIM a validé en août 2010 un master d'Arts à l'Université national de Séoul (Corée du Sud).
- Il a effectué un doctorat à l'Université de Bochum en Allemagne, du 01. 04. 2012 au 30. 01. 2018. Ses recherches se sont majoritairement concentrées sur la "nouvelle littérature allemande". Sujet de thèse:“Umsetzung und Verwandlung der Konzeption des Erhabenen bei Schiller” (Implementation and transformation of Schillers conception of the sublime).
- Il a obtenu par la Fondation Konrad-Adenauer (Allemagne) une bourse de doctorat du 01. 04. 2012 au 30. 09. 2016.
- Il a obtenu une bourse "Gateway Fellowship" [DFG GSC 98/3] pour la préparation au post-doctorat, et a été à ce titre reçu à l'IHRIM - UMR 5317, du 01/01 au 31/12/2019. Les bourses "Gateway Fellowship" sont financées par la Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, et leur attribution est assurée par la Research School Plus de l'Université de la Ruhr à Bochum.
- Il est post-doctorant du LabEx COMOD de novembre à décembre 2019, et sera post-doctorant de l'ENS de Lyon de décembre à août 2019.

Activités au sein du LabEx:

Recherche : mise à profit des trois mois au LabEx pour développer la réflexion sur les aspects spécifiques de la catégorie de "témoignage", en lien avec ce que l'on peut appeler la "crise de l'autobiographie".
Valorisation : intervention dans les séminaires de l’Aire « Modernités Allemandes » du LabEx COMOD. Préparation de la journée sur la notion de « Heimat - Peut-il y avoir une notion "moderne" de Heimat? » (novembre 2019).
Enseignement : cours niveau Master au département d'études coréennes de la Faculté des Langues de l'Université Lyon 3 (semestre 1 - année universitaire 2019-2020).
