Professor of Modern history at the National University of Distance Education (UNED) since 2005.

Professor Ribot began his research career at the University of Valladolid, where he graduated in 1975 and received his doctorate in the 1980-1981 academic year, reaching the chair of Modern History. He also served as director of the Simancas Institute of History of said university. In 2005 he left said university and moved to the National University of Distance Education. His main fields of research areSpanish Italy, Military History and the reign of Charles II. Luis Ribot received the National Prize for the History of Spain in 2003 for his book The Monarchy of Spain and the War of Messina (1674-1678).

Elected on May 8, 2009 Academician of the Royal Academy of History, he took up office on October 17, 2010. He dedicated his speech input to the subject Origins political testament of Carlos II. The gestation of the dynastic change in Spain. He succeeded the historian Gonzalo Menéndez Pidal y Goyri.
